Tuning Delicate Strings

Chapter 7

"So…let me get this straight…you want to get your brother alone with your bass player who happens to be a girl dressing as a boy and Ike doesn't know?" Amanda asked, resting her chin on her hand.
"Uh…not exactly…" Taylor began to say.
"No…exactly." Zac said, looking at Taylor.
"You've got to be joking. " Phyllis laughed.
"I mean, it's totally obvious that Ike has something for Nikai…but…what about Nikai…maybe Nikai is…uh…" Amanda hinted by arching her eyebrows up and down.
"I don't think so." Taylor said, scrunching up his brow.
"I think that you should just leave them be. If they want to…well…whatever than let them do it themselves." Phyllis said matter of factly.
"That's what I'm thinking." Taylor said.
"Uh uh…we have to help this along some how. You know how Ike is about admitting things. He'll never admit to liking Nikai…" Zac began to say.
"I just think it's a bad idea to get involved in other people's lives like this." Phyllis said, shaking her head disapprovingly.
"Well…I don't care…I'm going to get them together if my life depends on it." Zac said, standing up triumphantly.
"It just might because if neither of them are interested and you get involved well then you can kiss your ass goodbye." Amanda smiled and leaned back in the chair, folding her arms across her chest.
"Tay, you in?" Zac said, peering down at his older brother.
"I…I don't know." Taylor stammered and looked over at the girls. "C'mon…" Zac whined.
"I…I guess…but if we get in trouble, it's all your fault…" Taylor said, pointing up at Zac.
"Yeah, yeah." Zac said, rolling his eyes and waving his hand at his brother.
"What about you two?" Zac said, turning his attention to the two girls.
"Us? Why us?" Amanda said with an apprehensive tone to her voice.
"Well…you were the ones that pointed out that Nikai…is…"
"Hey, don't you guys have to leave for a show tomorrow?" Amanda said, cutting the younger of the two brothers off.
"That's right." Zac said, with a look of concentration on his face.
"Well, then, no can do." Amanda smiled triumphantly.
"Where's your next show?" Phyllis whispered to Taylor.
"Connecticut." He answered.
"We'll help you out." Phyllis smiled.
"Huh? What's this 'we' shit Tonto?" Amanda said accusingly at Phyllis.
"Man, c'mon, you don't have to work tomorrow and neither do I. This is for…uh…what's the word?" Phyllis began to say.
"Moral support?" Taylor said and smiled.
"Exactly. Moral support." Phyllis grinned.
"We are so going to get our asses into trouble." Amanda whined.
"So what's the plan?" Phyllis smiled.

"NIKAI! NIKAI!" Ike called as he ran down the street. No luck, Nikai was no where in sight. Ike stopped and stood there, thinking to himself.
"What…what happened?" He said to himself and put his hand on his head. He looked back up and shook his head as he began to head towards the hotel. He made his way inside and went up the elevator to his room.
Just as he opened the door, Ike saw Taylor and Zac in the small living room area with the two girls that they had met backstage only a few minutes ago.
"Taylor? Zac?" Ike questioned as he looked at his brothers questioningly.
"Uh…hey…Ike." Zac said, smiling awkwardly.
"Did you find Nikai?" He added.
"I don't want to talk about that right now if you don't mind." Ike grumbled. He stared at the two girls harshly.
"Uh…Taylor…why don't I give you my number and you can call me…about tomorrow." Phyllis said, keeping her eyes locked on Ike and whispering the last part.
"Oh…all right." He said. She went into her bag and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and scribbled her number down and handed it to him.
"It was very nice meeting you guys. Good luck on the rest of the tour." Phyllis said as her and Amanda headed towards the door of the hotel room.
"Yeah, thanks." Taylor and Zac said in unison.
The girls left and the brothers were the only ones left in the room.
"What was that all about?" Ike said in an irritated tone as he put his hands on his hips.
"We made some new friends." Taylor said, narrowing his eyes at his older brother.
"Oh…well…I'm going to go to bed." Ike said and turned his back on his siblings.
"Not before you tell us what's up your ass you're not!" Zac said angrily. Taylor immediately backed up, not wanting to get involved.
"Excuse me!" Ike said, just as aggressively.
"What the hell happened between you two!" Zac said, putting his hands on his hips. Suddenly, when it seemed all hell was going to break loose, Ike sighed and looked at the floor.
"I made an idiot out of myself, like usual." He said in an exasperated tone. "How?" Zac said, softening the tone of his voice.
"I found him tuning his guitar and asked if we could talk. We were going to find a restaurant to eat but…we ended up in a dance club…"
"A dance club?" Taylor said out of nowhere.
"Uh…yeah." Ike said.
"What's the big deal about that?" Zac asked.
"Well, this girl came up to Nikai and dragged him out on the dance floor so…"
"A GIRL dragged Nikai onto the d…dance floor?" Taylor said, almost choking.
"Yeah?" Ike said, narrowing his eyes at Taylor questioningly.
"And…well…I felt a little jealous so…I kind of found this girl and started dancing with her…"
"And?" Zac said, trying to read his brother's expressions.
"I…I just shouldn't have." Ike said, catching himself before he gave any more information away.
"That's it?" Zac asked.
"Yeah…that's it." Ike said, still keeping his eyes towards the floor.
"I'm…I'm going to go to bed now if you don't mind." He added, leaving his brothers to question what was really going on.
