The Babysitter - Part 3

Chapter 13

"True." I said as I stepped back.
"White, with baby designs." I said.
"Lord if Taylor came over now... he'd think we were crazy." He said.
"Yep." I said.
He then started to look around.
"What about the closet?" He asked.
"What about it?" I asked.
"Well, I could add slide doors instead of those shutters. It would hurt the baby if he or she got over there playing and closed it on their fingers." He said.
"Yes, I know it hurts. I did earlier." I said.
"See?" He said.
"Well, then all the new things need to be added first. The window seal needs to be replaced and the pane on that one." I said. The one facing the road.
"Yeah, I know." He said.
I handed him the measurements that I took.
"I got them earlier while I cleaned it up." I said.
"Ok." He said.
"Do we want to paint the chester drawers, or do we want to get a neutral color?" I asked.
"Well, if we did the chester drawers then we would have to do the baby bed to. And what other furniture? He said.
"Well, I saw at wal-mart stick on's. It wouldn't mean we'd have to paint it all." I said.
"Ok." He said.
"FBI called... they are sending you some more work and the're also sending me some cases. Easy stuff... training more or less... like fake cases." He said.
"Ok." I said.
I hadn't totally quit.
"Well, let's get the stuff.tomorrow or the next day and do the fixing. Then Sunday you can help paint and draw the stuff. Then next week I can paint it in." I said.
"Sounds like a plan. We could go ahead and get the chester drawers and baby bed. And just put them in one of the other rooms." He said.
"Yep. And get a rocker." I said.
"Ok." He said.

We went to Wal-Mart in the truck. He walked in and got everything. I got the baby bed, rocker and chester drawer though a nice gentleman got the stuff on the push cart for me. I met Zac at the front. I got the stickers and some extra paint and the trim paint, which would be an offset of white, a more darker white. We then paid and loaded it on the truck and then went back to the house. We took the stuff in with Zac insisting on picking up the heavier stuff. I grabbed the crib regardless. I just grabbed it. He didn't get a choice. We put the rocker, dresser and crib in the spare room and locked the door. The paint and the other material to fix the room in the room. I cooked while he redid the pane of glass and the trim work. He went ahead and did some work on it. We ate about 7:00, then watched WWF wrestling. It came on at eight. Until then we just talked. Added a few things to the list and checked some off. Then watched it when it went off. He turned off the lights. I made sure the doors were locked, then we went up stairs. I ran a warm bath and we both got in.
"Book says during the last month or so no sit down baths. So I'll enjoy all I can now." I said as I laid back onto his shoulder. He put his arms around me.
"Well, we have everythin...." I stopped him.
"Shh, don't say anything." I said.
He didn't finish the sentence and just sat there. We both did till the water got to cold. Then we got out and got dressed and went to bed. I wanted the time to just be together.

April 20th

I woke-up after he did. I laid back down. The house wasn't quiet. He was in the room doing something. I sat up and then felt something poke my finger. I looked beside me and on the bed laid a dozen blue roses with white edges. A note laid on top. I picked it up. A drawing of a rose. I opened it.

Jennifer,
I Love you. Just a reminder to let you know, even if I don't show it. I love you and the baby you're caring for.
Love always,
Zac

I smiled.
"That boy thinks of everything." I thought.
I picked them up. A vase sat beside the bed and I set them inside and put some water in it. I got up and walked to the room he was in. He was fixing the seals and the trim around the window. I watched for a little while. He didn't know I was there. I smiled as I watched him sealing it.
"You could have gotten me up." I said.
He dropped the calking gun when I startled him.
"Sorry." I said.
"You scared me." He said.
"Sorry." I said as I walked over to him.
"Thanks for the roses." I said and then kissed him.
"You're quite welcome." He said.
"Need any help?" I asked.
"Not really. Lunch would be nice." He said.
"Lunch?" I asked.
"Jennifer it's 11:30." He said.
"Well..." I said.
I walked downstairs. The mail had run. I walked out to get it right quick. I came in and figured what to fix. I then fixed lunch. I then called him down. He came downstairs. I sat the plate down as he sat down.
"You didn't have to cook a full course meal." He said.
"You looked hungry." I said.
"I did?" He asked.
"Yes." I said.
"Ok." He said smiling.
I sat down. We ate lunch while we talked. After lunch he went back to work. I walked to the spare room we had all the stuff in. I sat down on a stool. I sat the box with the rocker in it. I took it out and saw that it had lots of parts. I laid them out.
"Yeah, get something to keep you busy." I thought while I located the instructions. I unfolded them.
"Good lord." I said.
I taped them on the wall and made sure all the parts were there. I then started putting it together. It was white as well as the putty, which was white and used to hides the screws and stuff. I got to work. I ended up sitting on the floor. It took me two to five hours to get it together. I was actually afraid to sit in it. I had double checked all the screws and connections. I made sure it was put together tightly. I sat down and noticed it worked great. I put the pillow on the bottom which had had baby blocks and teddy bears. I got the stickers and put them on it. The arms, the back on the top. The sides where the rocker was. I then stood back.
"I'd say it's ready to go." Zac said.
"Well, it's a while." I said.
"Yep." He said.
"So, how's the room?" I asked.
"Doors up, windows fixed and all the trims down." He said.
"Except for the floor boards?" I asked.
"Except those." He said.
"Good." I said as I handed him the baby bed.
"What?" He asked.
"I'll help." I said.
"You better." He said.
We both sat down and put it together. Once it was set up, which only took two hours to get it up, I looked across at him from one side.
"Now... all we need is the sets to go in and mobile for the crib. About two different ones." I said.
"Yep and the mattresses." He said.
"Yeah." I said.
We put the stickers on it that we had a crib set for it. It had two large stickers that went on the ends. We smoothed them out and added the extra ones. We sat the crib and the rocker in the corner so it's out of the way.
"Why did you get everything as a do it yourself?" He asked.
"Well, I figured if I got bored painting I could put it together... but nevermind." I said.
Another two hours for the chester drawers. I got to do the stickers while he went to fix supper. Once done I put it aside. I threw a sheet over them all so if anyone got in they didn't see it. I then went downstairs. At 8:00 we ate. The papers from the FBI had arrived. I sat down at the table with Zac sitting across from me to do some work and then look over the 'Fake cases' as he called em. I looked over the real ones. I was reading when I came across one.
'Agent Hanson's eyes ONLY!!!!!!!!!' It had printed across the front. It was a yellow envelope. I opened it and laid the papers across the table. I got up and ran to the bathroom. Supper didn't stay down long. Zac followed.
"Whats the matter?" He asked.
I sat there a few minutes. The picture on top had a lot of blood on it.
"It's the top picture I wasn't expecting it." I said.
He helped me up and I went back to the table. I picked it up. It was back a few years. The date was in the 80's. Zac sat down and started fake case number one. Taylor and Ike had one also I'm sure. I sat down. I picked up the report.
"Amy Richardson." I thought back.
Ashley Richardson. I wrote her name down and Amy's. It didn't match. What happened to Amy? Where did Amy go? I wrote them down. The other cases got left aside as I shifted through the endless report of her whereabouts. Only one seemed legitimate. I wrote down the address.
"Zac? I'll be back in a little while." I said.
"Where ya going?" He asked.
"To find someone." I said.
I put the envelope and its contents in my purse which came with me. I went to the address on the other side of Tulsa. Pulling up to the house which was a three story house I then got out. I walked to the door and knocked. A young lady answered. She looked like a wreck.
"Ma'am?" I asked.
"Yes?" She said.
"Is there an Amy here?" I asked.
"Why do you want to know?" She asked as I showed her the badge.
"Special agent Hanson. Are you Amy?" I asked.
"Yes." She said.
"May I come in?" I asked.
She let me in. As I walked threw the house I saw pictures of a baby. Ashley.
"You want something to drink tea or coffee?" She asked.
"No thanks." I said.
She then sat down.
"Why are you here? The FBI has tried to locate her." She said.
"Who?" I asked.
"My little girl... Ashley." She said.
"Is this Ashley?" I asked holding the photo that was in the file.
"Yes." She said.
"Ma'am , who do you think took Ashley?" I asked.
"My Father." She said.
"Who's that?" I asked.
"Jonathan Richardson. He told me he would." She said.
"Amy, I know she's with him. I'm the one who got her. He threatened to kill me if I didn't listen. I need your help. I can get your little girl back and him out of your life.... if that's what you want?" I asked.
"I know who you are. You were on the cameras." She said.
"Yes." I said as she stood up.
"When I was little I always wondered where daddy went. It wasn't until I was thirteen that I realized daddy wasn't the nice person I thought he was. That four year old girl he got. I watched her for a few hours. I wondered who she belonged to." I interrupted.
