Put Up Your Kingdom For Sale

Chapter 11 - Caffeine…PLEASE!

“Tay?” Phyllis called sweetly as she pressed her ear up to the bathroom door.
“What!” Taylor yelled angrily.
“Let me come in…”
“NO!” Taylor screamed, throwing something at the door.
“But…But…” Phyllis stammered.
“Leave him. He’s being obnoxious.” Ike laughed as he took off his gear.
“But he’s sick…” Phyllis was extremely concerned. She didn’t like to see Taylor sick especially when he didn’t want her to help him.
“He’ll be fine. Go make yourself some coffee.” Ike said reassuringly and patted Phyllis shoulder. They stopped when the door opened and Taylor stumbled out. He had dark circles under his eyes, his hair was messed up and he looked like he was going to just crumple into a ball.
“Come on, we need to get you in bed.” Phyllis said, moving quickly to hold him up. He shook her hands lose from his arms and stared at her.
“Just leave me alone!” He said angrily.
“I’ll handle this.” Ike said, taking Taylor’s arm. Phyllis looked at Taylor and could feel the tears welling in her eyes. Ike helped Taylor in the bed. Taylor leaned his head against the headboard as Ike left the room. Phyllis just stood there in the doorway, looking sad. Taylor looked over at her and squinted.
“Awww Phyl, I’m sorry. I just don’t want you around when I’m sick.” Taylor said, smiling weakly at her. He motioned with his hand for her to come closer. He then patted his hand on the bed for her to sit down. She sat down hesitantly and looked over in his direction. Taylor leaned his head against the headboard again and stared up at the ceiling. He took her hand in his and rubbed her knuckles with his thumb.
“Why did you leave?”
“Huh?”
“Why did you leave?” She repeated herself.
“I was angry.”
“You know there is nothing you can do about it. He’s not a little boy anymore.” Phyllis said, moving in closer to him.
“I know, but, still. I feel responsible. He’s still my little brother.”
“He needs to live his own life Tay. That includes the mistakes.”
“But it’s so stupid. How could he be so stupid?” Taylor said, feeling the anger start to build up inside again.
“Just get some rest and do me a favor…”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t even think about doing that again.” Phyllis smiled. Phyllis got up and left the room, leaving Taylor to rest.

“How’s the drunk doin?” Holly laughed.
“I have you know this is the first time he has EVER done this. He was upset.” Phyllis said defensively.
“Jeez Phyl.” Amanda said as Phyllis sat down.
“I left him to get some rest but I’m going to go back up there a little later.”
“Phyl, you haven’t slept all night, why don’t you just go and get some sleep?” said Candy concerned.
“No, I’m going up there after I have some caffeine in my system.” Phyllis said and left to go in the kitchen.

“What she does for him.” Ike said, shaking his head.
“Why do you say that?” Candy questioned.
“I know damn straight that if I ever came home like that, you’d be so angry at me…”
“Phyllis has more patience than I do.”
Phyllis came back out, downing the last drops of coffee that was in her cup and put it on the coffee table. She took off her bathrobe and hung it on the stair banister.
“Phyl…” Amanda called.
“What?” Phyllis said, rubbing her eye.
“Nothing.”
Phyllis headed back upstairs and opened the bedroom door quietly. Taylor was lying on his back in the bed, with his arms spread out and his legs tangled in the covers. Phyllis sat on the bed ad leaned over him. She leaned back against the headboard and stroked his hair. Taylor woke up and looked at her.
“Phyl?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m sorry about yelling at you, I just didn’t want you around when I was sick.
“It’s all right.” Phyllis smiled and continued to stroke his hair.
“You have to realize that you scared the hell out of me. I didn’t know where you were or anything.” She added.
“Sorry.”
“By the way, what did you happen to drink last night?”
“The hardest thing the bartender would give me.”
“That wasn’t smart.”
“I was just so angry.” Taylor attempted to get up then felt his head swimming.
“Uh oh.” He said with wide eyes. He jumped out of the bed and ran towards the bathroom, covering his mouth. Phyllis leaped off the bed and ran into the bathroom before Taylor could close the door.

“What’s going on up there?” Holly asked, looking up at the ceiling.
“It seems that Taylor is…well…you know.” Amanda said.
“I’m coming.” Ike said, putting his gear back on. He headed back upstairs and stood in front of the bathroom door. He opened the door a crack and peered in side. Taylor was sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall. Phyllis wiped his mouth with a wash cloth and smoothed back his hair. She leaned in and put her arms around him.
Ike closed the door quietly and left to go downstairs.
“How’s he doing?” Candy asked.
“Fine.’ Ike smiled.
“What’s going on?” Holly asked.
“Phyllis is in there taking care of it. There just so cute.” Ike laughed.
“Those words, coming from your mouth is just plain scary.” Holly laughed.
