"Melanie, Melanie, wake up Melanie! MELANIE!" April Victor screamed as she straddled Melanie on the bed, shaking her awake. Melanie's eyes popped wide open as April swept the damp strands of hair out of Melanie's face. Panic overtook her body as her breathing came in deep, echoing gulps. A small stream of sweat trickled down her face and Melanie immediately touched her finger to her head where the trail had been.
"Turn on the light." Melanie said in between breaths as April flipped the switch, flooding the room with its blinding yellowish-white light.
"Are you okay? You look pretty shook up. That must have been some nightmare!" April said as Melanie examined her hand. Melanie tried to focus on April's 5'3" petite 95 lb frame, her shoulder-length, sunlight-kissed blonde hair, and aquamarine eyes in a desperate attempt to have her mind stop playing tricks on her.
"There's no blood? Where am I? Where are the fans?" Melanie threw off the covers from the bed as she buried her face in her hands trying to collect her thoughts.
"Melanie, calm down. Look at me!" April gently cupped Melanie's face in her petite hands.
"I don't know what kind of a dream you had, but you're in your house and you invited me here for a sleepover. There's no blood on your forehead or anywhere on your body. Now, what we need to do is get you some water and cool you down. After that we'll sit down and you can tell me about this nightmare of yours, okay?" Melanie was speechless and slightly shook her head as April ran into the adjacent bathroom and soaked a washcloth with cool water.
"Now, hold still. Just relax." April whispered as she gently dabbed around Melanie's oval face. After returning Melanie back from the bathroom where she had splashed some cool water in Melanie's tangled locks, April plopped down onto the queen-sized bed and motioned Melanie to do the same.
"I guess I have a lot of explaining to do, huh?" Melanie sighed as she rested her weary body down onto the mattress, curling a pillow against her body. April nodded as Melanie took a deep breath and started from the top.
"Hey Zac, can you get the door it should be Ashley and Mindy." Taylor yelled from the kitchen where he was helping his mom fill bowls with pretzels, potato chips, and dips.
Zac trudged to the front door wrapping a thin ponytail holder around his long locks.
"I'm sorry, but no groupies over twenty-one are allowed." Zac said as he opened the door a crack. He shut the door and seconds later swung it open to let Ashley Greyson and his fiancée, Mindy, inside.
"Cute Zac, real cute. We'll see who will get creamed with a water balloon later." Ashley retorted as he carried his infamous video camcorder by his side.
"Ooohhh water, I'm so scared!" Zac dripped with sarcasm. Mindy laughed and kissed Zac on the cheek as Zac closed the door behind them.
"Ha, even your fiancée takes my side!" Zac smirked as he scooped Zoë into his arms on the way to the kitchen where he took a handful of chips. Ashley shot him a mischievous grin.
"Sure, you can go ahead and mock me all you want, but I'm sure your fans would love to see a video of you on the big screen drooling on your pillow while talking in your sleep."
Zac immediately shut his mouth and bit his lip; Ashley did have a point.
"Ashley, ready to hit the road tomorrow night?" Walker asked as he patted Ashley on the back and set the camcorder on the wet-bar.
"Ready as ever. I'm just as excited as the guys." Ashley grinned as he hugged Walker.
"Great. Grab a plate and we'll talk in the living room." Walker smiled as the two walked off.
"So, you saw an angel? Well, maybe it's a vision of some sort. Maybe you're Zac's guardian angel." April said as she absent-mindedly twisted a tiny strand of Melanie's hair into a braid.
"Oh, yeah right, I'm sure of that." Melanie rolled her eyes. "I don't know what to think of the dream. Everything just seemed so real. I'm still not sure if I'm dreaming or not." Melanie closed her eyes and sighed.
"Can't really blame you. Maybe it's just a weird dream, but if you start a recurring pattern with this dream then I'd start worrying." April finished the sliver of hair in her hand and moved on to another strand.
"If I tell you something, will you promise not to think of me as a person that went off the deep end?" Melanie in all of her seriousness said as she slowly opened her eyes looking straight up at April.
"Well, you already are a lunatic, but sure you can tell me anything." April grinned. Melanie smacked April's hand as they both burst out laughing.
"I'm just so lucky to have you as my best friend. Funny how it seems like yesterday you turned how old?" Melanie joked.
"Eighteen, but emotionally I just turned two." April stuck out her tongue. After a few seconds of awkward silence, Melanie took a deep breath and let out her penned-up emotions.
"In my dream ¦I remember Zac telling me that things were getting hectic and the next thing out of mouth was asking him if it was about the fans attacking them." Melanie's eyes connected with April's.
"Wow, if that isn't freaky, I don't know what is! I can only hope that it was just a dream and not a foreshadowing of any kind." April stopped braiding the lock, an uneasy look on her face.
"Well, luckily he said that most of the fans didn't attack them, but they just treated them like celebrities instead of the normal people that they are." Melanie frowned as she tried to recall her dream.
"Maybe this is a sign from God or something. Maybe God is giving you this dream for a reason." April smiled at Melanie.
"Well, I guess the only thing we can do for now is pray that the security is beefed up at the venues." April leaned her head back up against the wall as Melanie ran her finger over the first fresh braid. The girls stared at each other one last time as April walked over to the light switch and flicked it off.
"Goodnight, Melanie. Try to have a good dream this time." April whispered, but Melanie was already asleep.
