Because The Night

Chapter 9

I didn’t bother to get up the next morning all though “my family” tried everything. I ignored their pleas and just explained I didn’t feel well. “My parents” believed what I said and took the y9ounger kids out for breakfast. Zac and Ike on the other hand insisted on staying with me. Zac sat on the edge of my bed and stared down at me.
“What!” I said angrily.
“Bor, what’s wrong?” He said. He seemed so concerned.
“Nothing. I don’t feel good.” I said, turning over so I didn’t have to see his face.
“Tay, I know something else is up. What happened?” He asked, coming around the other side of the bed.
“I…I…” I stammered.
“Something happened with her didn’t it.” He said. How could he know. I was amazed.
“How…How did you…”
“Tay, it’s pretty simple to see. You’re obviously got something for her.” He said in a calm voice.
“What happened?” He asked once more.”
“Her friends don’t want me to see her again.” I answered and leaned back against the head board.
“What does that have to do with you and her? They don’t control either one of you now do they?” He said very matter of factly.
“I know Zac…but it’s not that simple…”
“Does she want to see you?”
“How can I put this Zac, she doesn’t…doesn’t really know what’s going on.” I answered, thinking about how truly innocent she was.
“What do you mean?” He questioned.
“She’s actually only seen me once.” I answered.
“Once? I don’t understand.” He said, narrowing his eyes.
“I…I’ve been following her around. Remember when the one girl saw us when we were in that store, well, her other friend found me…uh…in their hotel room. She threatened to…”
“She threatened you! Why were you in their hotel room?” He asked.
“I…I had to see her again. You wouldn’t understand.” I sighed.
“Tay, you have to talk to her. You can’t just do whatever her friends say.”
“I don’t want to hurt her…”
“Why would you hurt her? You just want to talk to her! Zac said angrily.
“I really don’t want to talk about this any longer is you don’t mind.” I said disgusted and put the covers over my head.
“Tay?”
“What?”
“Why would you hurt her?” He said calmly as he put his hand n my shoulder.
“Zac, there’s a lot you don’t know about me. I can’t really explain it to you. This is something I have to deal with on my own. Do you understand?”
“I understand that you have to talk to her, no matter what.” He answered and got up.
“Where are you going?” I asked, sitting up in the bed and bringing my knees up to my chest.
“Watch television. When you want me to understand, I’ll be in there to listen.” He said bitterly and shut the door. I hung my head low and closed my eyes. He was right, I had to talk to her. I just couldn’t explain it to him. I felt bad about not telling him. I really wished that I could. I hate keeping secrets especially something as big as being a blood drinker. If I did, none of them would trust me and I would have to leave like I have so many other times before. (Something entirely different and too hard to explain.)
I looked up when the door opened again. Ike stood there, looking down at me.
“What’s going on?” He asked, concerned.
“Uh…”
“Zac seems pissed about something. What happened?” He questioned.
“I don’t know.” I answered and rested my chin on my knees and wrapped my arms around my knees.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, still standing there.
“I feel like shit alright! And I want to be left alone!” I said angrily. I got up, threw the covers to the side, and ran into the bathroom. I slammed the door shut and locked it. I pressed my back to the door and slid down until I was sitting on the floor. I closed my eyes and sighed as I leaned my head against the door. Why was this so hard? I just couldn’t take it any longer. I was snapping and lashing out at everyone. I had to finally get her alone, no matter what I did to do it. I stood up and got undressed. I walked into the shower, turning on the water and relaxed under the warmth.

I finished in the shower and wiped the mist off the mirror and took a good look at myself. I looked horrible. My eyes were blood shot and I looked almost dead. I rubbed my face and headed out of the bathroom. I didn’t even bother to brush my hair out. I let it stay wet and hang in my face. I grabbed a pair of jeans and a loose gray shirt that I used to wear around the house. I got dressed and headed out the bedroom door, grabbing my shoes as I went. I could see Ike and Zac look up at me but I ignored it. I ran out of our suite barefoot and went down the elevator to the first floor. I didn’t even know where she could possibly be. I flew past the receptionist desk only to be stopped by someone calling my name. I stopped fast and swung around.
