Captive Heart

Chapter 26

Taylor waited patiently. He jumped when he could hear something coming from the walkie-talkie. He took it out of his pocket and put it to his ear.

“Hello Hadrien.” Owen’s unmistakable voice broke through.
“Owen.” Hadrien said.
“So, I wanted to tell my guards about shipping the hostages over to somewhere…a little more permanent. Why am I talking to you, you don’t understand what I’m saying.” Owen laughed.
“Actually, I know exactly what you’re saying. I know exactly what your planning and I’m here to tell you it’s over.” Hadrien said confidently.
“WHAT?! HOW DARE YOU!” Owen yelled.
“You won’t get away with it Owen!” Hadrien said.
“GUARDS!” Owen screamed. Taylor held his breath as he listened.
“TAYLOR! TAYLOR! DO IT! DO IT!” Hadrien screamed into the walkie-talkie. Taylor bit his lip.
“I…I…” Taylor stuttered, listening to the commotion going on over the walkie-talkie. He looked towards the barracks and back down to the controller.
“Hadrien.” Taylor whispered.

A loud sound startled everyone in the dining hall.
“What was that?” Phyllis said, looking frantically around.
“I don’t know?” Zac said. All of a sudden, almost all of the guards ran to the entrance of the compound. All the hostages followed along. Holly, Phyllis and Zac stood there, not knowing what to do.
“Let’s go!” Zac said. They ran as fast as they could to the entrance of the compound. They pushed their way to the front and ran outside of the compound, looking out to the barracks.
“What’s that?” Phyllis asked, noticing the building in flaming rubble.
“The barracks.” Zac answered.
“WAIT! DIDN’T YOU TELL ME TAYLOR WAS IN THERE!” Phyllis said, grabbing Zac violently by the shirt.
“uh…he…” Zac said, feeling his eyes welling up.
“NO!” Phyllis screamed on top of her lungs. She burst into tears and collapsed on the ground.
“GOD! GOD!” Phyllis screamed.
“Phyl!” Holly yelled, running over to her and grabbing her.
“NO!” Phyllis screeched. Tears ran down her face as she looked helplessly towards the barracks.
“TAYLOR!” She screamed. She sobbed so hard that her voice was starting to become hoarse. Zac came over to her, letting the tears pour down his face.
“HE WAS IN THERE! OH GOD!” Phyllis screamed, looking up at Zac. She got up and grabbed Zac, holding him as he started to cry on her shoulder along with her. Phyllis looked back towards the barracks.
“I can’t believe it.” She said.
“He’s gone.” She said.
“DO YOU HEAR ME! HE’S GONE!” She screamed, letting Zac go and walking to the guards.
“YOU KILLED HIM!” She yelled.
“You killed him!” Phyllis whimpered.
