We opened the doors to the restaurant and rolled the podium out. I stood there, behind, completely terrified that I was going to mess this up. Than I stopped and took a deep breath.
"Seating people can't be all that hard…can it?" No sooner had I said it, two people came up to me.
"Uh…hi." I smiled nervously.
"Hello…two…non smoking." The man said.
"Uh…all right." I glanced down at the board, totally confused. They continued to look at me as I started to panic.
"Uh…can you just hold on a second?" I smiled.
"Uh…all right…" They said a little startled as I ran over to my manager.
"What do I do?" I whispered.
"Huh?" She asked, bewildered.
"Where do I seat two for non-smoking?" I asked, wide eyed.
"Where you normally would, in the non-smoking section." She said, narrowing her eyes at me.
"That would be…" I questioned.
"Phyllis, you've been working here long enough I think, for you to know where the non-smoking section is. Are you sure you're all right…you actually look a little pale?" She asked, putting her hand on my shoulder.
"Uh…" I began to stammer.
"Why don't you go home…you look like you're sick." She said, concerned.
"Uh…yeah…yeah…sick." I mumbled.
I clocked out and just as I was about to walk out of the restaurant, I heard 'Phyl' being called.
"Huh?" I said, turning around.
"Hey, aren't you supposed to be working?" A girl said. She looked familiar but I couldn't remember from where. She had long, brown hair in a braid and glasses.
"Uh…hi…uh…"I didn't know her name so I was a little scared.
"I…I'm sick." I added, trying to cover my butt.
"Oh…you wanna ride home?" She asked.
"Really?" I asked, surprised.
"Sure. I just have to pick something up and we can book." She smiled.
"Okay." I said, following her. We ended up walking to the music store, where she began searching for some cd I had never heard. I stopped, walking away from her, to look around for myself. I found a couple albums of interest and stayed in that section.
"Uh…hi." I heard a guy's voice behind me as he tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey." I smiled.
"You into them?" He asked, pointing to the cd in my hand.
"Yeah…they rock." I answered and looked back at him.
"I'm thinking of getting it." I added.
"Don't bother." He said, waving his hand and smiling.
"Why?" I questioned.
"You can listen to it at my house." He grinned. At first I thought it might be one of Phyllis' friends but I noticed her other friend, the girl, looking over at us with a weird expression on her face.
"What are you getting at?" I asked.
"You know what I mean…you're cut…" He didn't even have a chance to finish before I thought I was going to vomit.
"I'M NOT GAY!" I ground out and put the cd back down.
"Uh…I didn't say you were…I'm a guy and you're a girl…I think…" He said with his hands up defensively. I mentally smacked myself in the head.
"I'm not interested Romeo…you're barking up the wrong tree. I said and left with Phyllis' friend hot on my heels.
"Oh my god Phyl…that…that was freaky…" She stammered as she fought to keep up with me.
"I can't believe him…he…I'm a guy…I…mean…girl and…uh…" I stopped dead in my tracks, knowing full well I slipped and she heard it.
"Shit!" I said, startling even myself.
"Uh…what the hell did I just miss?" She said with wide eyes. I didn't say anything.
"Phyl?" She questioned, putting her hands on my shoulders so she could face me. Suddenly, she jerked her hands away.
"Oh…my…since when do you have blue…oh my god!" She gasped and put her hand over her mouth.
"What?!" I asked.
"You're not Phyl…but…but…you are Phyl…" She stuttered, totally confused.
"You…you know…" I gasped, wide eyed. She just kept studying me.
"This…this is unbelievable…but…but…who are you?" She stammered.
"Wait! How do you know I'm not her…" I asked.
"You walk different, talk different…different color eyes…" She said, trying to read me as she looked me over. I sighed and looked down at the floor.
"I'm Taylor…" I said quietly.
"What? Say that again…" She asked, bending her head to hear me better.
"I'm Taylor." I said and looked at her. Her eyes suddenly went wide and her jaw dropped.
"Taylor…as in…Taylor." She said, eyes getting bigger with every word she uttered.
"Yeah." I answered.
"Oh my god…wait…if…if you're Taylor…where…where's Phyl?!" She asked with a questioning look.
"I can think of only one place." I answered.
"Your body?!" She almost yelled.
"Shh!" I said angrily.
"You don't want everyone to hear!" I whispered.
"Even if they did, they wouldn't believe it." She said, looking at me.
"I just can't believe this." She said, looking me over.
"You're not the only one." I sighed.
"We gotta find her…I mean…your body…oh…same thing I guess." She smiled.
"Yeah." I grinned.
